China Mobile – worlds biggest mobile phone company

China Mobile is the world’s biggest mobile provider in the world with more than 269 million customers (for mobile phones), registered capital of 52.8 billion RMB Yuan and investment capital of more than 400 billion RMB Yuan.

At the moment, considered from the market value alone, China Mobile, by some margin, the largest Chinese company with headquarters abroad and in the whole of Asia it is the most important player with regards telecommunication services.

The company was registered in 1997 under the name China Telecom (Hong Kong), but changed its name in 2000 to China Mobile (Hong Kong). China mobile has its head office in Hong Kong and is a subsidiary company of China mobile Communications.

China Mobile has in China alone a market share of 40%. Since there are at present only 29% of the Chinese who own a mobile, one can imagine that there is still very much space open for economic expansion.

Siemens on board too

Recently, Siemens Communications, the telecommunication specialist of Siemens AG, received order to expand China Mobile’s GSM/GPRS-network in the provinces Tibet, Xingjian, Beijing and Shanghai. The total value of the order is estimated with ca. 100 million US Dollar. Siemens Communications is trading in network infrastructures worldwide and has been partner of both China Mobile and its competitor China Unicom since several years now.

Google as new partner

Most recently, Google became partner of China Mobile. Google plans installing its search engine on the mobile platform Monternet, thus offering search tools for various areas as sports, music, entertainment news, ring tunes, games, pictures and videos.
For the user, it will be possible to use the Service via a search box or search link that can be found on the Monternet site.

China Mobile in Hong Kong’s Skyline

At the evening before the ITU’s (International Telecommunication Union) Telecom World 2006 Expo on December 3rd, China Mobile did switch on its first neon sign in Hong Kong.  One can find the neo sign near the Wanchai Ferry. It measures 12m x 56m and displays the company’s name China Mobile in blue and white colour.
