Qinghai Lake, the biggest lake of China with the island Niaodao (Bird's Island).

Ta'er monastery: 26 km away from Xining and located in the small Town Huangzhong. One of the most important Buddhist monasteries in China. Birthplace of Tsong Khapa, the founder of the "Dge-lugs-pa (Yellow Hat sect)".

Most important towns: Xining, Golmud.

From Lhasa it's a 24-hour bus ride to Golmud. The Chinese government wants to build a railroad to Lhasa. A part of Qinghai province belonged to Tibet for several centuries.

Estern Qinghai is a plateau approx. 2500 m above sea level, Souther Qinghai plateau approx. 3500 m above sea level.

Minority groups in Qinghai province: Mongols, Tibetans, Hui.
