Sights:

Shenyang (Mukden): former capital of the Manchu empire. The grave of Nurhaci, who started the invasion into China, the grave of Huan Taiji, who was the founder of the Qing-Dynasty, as well as the old emperor's palace of the Qing-Dynasty are worth a visit.

Dalian which is also called Hongkong of the North,  was occupied by Russia and Japan during 19th and at the beginning of 20th century. There are several parks and nice beaches around Dalian.

Take the Yalu River Boat Cruise and you can have a closer look at the North-Korean boarder (just for the "I´ve been there-feeling"...actually, there is not much to see)

Liaoning is the area from which the Manchus originate. During the 17th century, the Manchus invaded China and founded the Qing-Dynasty in 1644. The Qing-Dynasty was the last Chinese dynasty and replaced by the Republic of China in 1911.
